INBEOM SONG
more
Song Inbeom explores his connection to materials through a pictorial endeavor reminiscent of brushing paint onto a three-dimensional canvas. Song focuses on the material phenomena that occur in the process of stroking across a glass vase still charged with thermal energy, and his final works convey the sensory experience of this process. The strokes in his works are a medium that exists in relation to another space or realm, and the porous relationality between the two realms is embodied through the properties of glass. The vessels which bear witness to  brush strokes  capture the event of the encounter between one glass surface and another, as well as the viewer’s perception of the experience.

Working with molten glass at high temperatures, lines are formed. The tactile sensitivity of the hand, the movement of the tools, and the rhythm of temperature converge in moments of spontaneous decision-making, leaving traces in the form of lines. Through repeated experimentation and fine-tuning, these lines take shape, embodying both the intensity of emotion and the rhythm of the body.

The process closely involves the rhythm of the body manipulating the tools, sensory perception, and the accumulation of labor. Through this, non-verbal contemplation is materialized, positioning glass as a medium where inner emotions and bodily movements intersect. The interplay of tools, materials, and the artist’s sensitivity continuously generates evolving forms, which in turn become the essence of the work and a field of ongoing inquiry. Traversing repetition and improvisation, heat and cooling, line and emotional texture, glass becomes a material that questions the very depth of the act of making.
